Evolution of logo design: when did it begin?
The creation of the logo is just one side of the strong force we call brand identity. With the origins of human thought, the history of logo design continues.
The foundation:
The logos we know today have found back in the 13th century and the era of the Renaissance. That was the era when, as a sign of ownership the stonemasons and goldsmiths first initiated to carve logos on their work. As time went by, people become more civilized, and there were almost 700 lithographic printers in the US only, by the 19th century. At that part of the time, the credit of art was given to printing companies rather than artists or craftsman though.
As innovation in this field continued to grow, colourful books of children and newspapers were started being printed, near to 1870s. The popular Victorian aptitude for style led to a huge growth of expressive typography that used to represent different businesses and brands.
The first and oldest logo:
There was a surge of interest in credit granted for craftsmanship owing to the massive growth in industrial manufacturing in the Victorian era, leading to the beginning of exclusive logos. For Bass Brewery, the first logo ever advertised was in 1876. It was a red triangle with the "Bass" text underneath with a sweeping cursive text.
When mass communication enabled corporations to embrace graphic means of communication, this pattern of trademark continued gradually up to the advent of the screen, bringing us to the logos we remember today in advertisement and branding. The pattern of using logos has not changed since ancient times. Symbols are also used to communicate a message about you or your brand.

If we talk about today's era, the market is saturated with many different logos, and whenever you step out of your house you must come across with hundreds of it, if not thousands of them on daily basis.
Human brains tend to quickly process visuals, almost 60,000 times faster than texts. Considering this fact, it's no wonder why brands are struggling to create a perfect visual representation for themselves.

Showing, the values and principles they promote, logos are one of the most powerful marketing tools.
